Ned I'm only part way through but you've nailed it. Brilliant piece, full of colour. I haven't been in response in over twenty years but you brought it all back. Great piece of writing.

That was first class writing and certainly rings true!

Thank you.

Absolutely superb and so eloquently written. Very accurate even if I retired in 2016. Keep them coming please.

Much too kind, thank you Simon and for all you did.

Thanks for writing this and peeling the curtain off. Hats off to all who do police work. Can’t imagine how scary it must be entering all these potential crime scenes, never quite knowing what threat level you’ll be exposed to - and without weapons on top of that!

This is so true. I retired in 2013 from a Metropolitan force. I got out at the earliest opportunity rather than wait. I was not alone, and the trend continues. We all saw this coming unless Government policies changed towards Public Services. There are PMs and Home Secretaries with the blood of the Police Service on their hands.

Vivid "diary" with cinematic immediacy and a compelling sense of urgency, frustration, futility and dedication. I salute your writing chops, resilience and public service, Ned.
